Just Roots works to build organizational sustainability for the sake of the communities we serve, the farms that feed them and the planet where we live. As we work to scale our CSA model to connect local farms with food insecure populations in partnership with healthcare partners across Massachusetts through a strategy rooted in food is medicine, Just Roots remains rooted at home at the Greenfield Community farm and invested in our home community of Franklin County.

(Im)proving the CSA Model
From May 2017 to December 2018, Just Roots conducted a randomized clinical trial to explore the health outcome impacts of CSA participation. This study, led by Dr. Seth Berkowitz, MD, MPH Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine and funded by the USDA and the Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation of Massachusetts, examined the use of local food as health interventions. The findings were published in leading peer-reviewed research journals and launched our Food is Medicine work and Farm to Family program.
