ALTERNATE DELIVERY DRIVER
Part time, occasional | $23/hour | Greenfield, MA
Just Roots is looking for a reliable alternate delivery driver to help cover our food delivery routes when one of our regular drivers is unavailable.
This is an occasional position without a fixed weekly schedule or guaranteed hours. Shifts will be offered when regular drivers are sick, on vacation, or otherwise unavailable. Sometimes we will know well in advance, and sometimes we may reach out on relatively short notice. You are not expected to be available every time we call and are welcome to decline shifts when you aren’t available.
This could be a good fit for someone who has a flexible schedule and would like to pick up an occasional full day of work.
What you’ll be doing:
- Deliver boxes of fresh produce and other food to participants’ homes throughout Western Massachusetts
- Follow established routes and delivery instructions
- Safely and confidently drive a Just Roots delivery vehicle
- Load, unload, and carry boxes weighing up to 50 pounds
- Communicate with Just Roots staff about delivery issues, participant needs, or changes encountered along the route
- Provide friendly, respectful customer service and represent Just Roots well in the communities we serve
- Complete basic vehicle safety checks and report any concerns
Our drivers are an important part of our programs. For many participants, the driver arriving at their door is one of the few Just Roots staff members they meet in person. We’re looking for someone who is dependable, kind, comfortable working independently, and takes that responsibility seriously. That emphasis on customer service and communication is consistent with the existing driver role.
We’re looking for someone with:
- A valid driver’s license and safe driving record
- Ability to successfully complete a CORI background check
- Comfort driving vans and larger delivery vehicles
- The ability to repeatedly lift and carry up to 50 pounds and make deliveries in rain, heat, cold, and snow
- A reliable smartphone and comfort using maps, text, phone, and email
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail
- Comfort working independently for much of the day
- Experience working respectfully with people from a wide range of backgrounds and life experiences
Previous professional delivery experience is helpful, but not required.
Schedule and compensation:
$23/hour. This is an occasional position with no guaranteed minimum number of hours. Shifts are generally full delivery days and will be offered as coverage needs arise. Some shifts may be scheduled days or weeks ahead, while others may become available on short notice.
