A quick note about 2026 CSA prices:

Dear CSA Members,

We’ve made the tough decision to increase our CSA prices for the 2026 growing season. Over the past six years, the cost of farming inputs, from seeds and fertilizer to potting soil and supplies, has steadily risen, often by anywhere from 10–50%. These increases have significantly impacted the overall cost of operating our farm year after year. While we have worked hard to offset these pressures through grants, fundraising, and investments that improve farm efficiency, we have reached a point where a price adjustment is necessary to sustain the farm and the work our organization does.

This was not a decision we made lightly, and we recognize that many folks in our community are feeling the strain of rising costs across all areas of life. Just Roots remains deeply committed to providing fresh, affordable, and abundant food through our farm and CSA programs. Our sliding-scale pricing model continues to reflect that commitment, with multiple price points, so members can choose what works best for them. Please note: our SNAP CSA rate WILL NOT increase!

Based on the tracked valuation of the 2025 Summer CSA (outlined in our 2025 CSA report), our 2026 Summer CSA prices will be as follows:

FULL shares: $950 / $800 / $710 / $400**
SMALL shares: $695 / $590 / $500 / $270**

We believe these price increases represent a fair valuation to our CSA across all price points. Understanding the value of your CSA and the mission of Just Roots, we ask you to choose a price and payment schedule that works for your budget. Please pay what you can to sustain your community farm! We are grateful for your continued support and involvement, which makes this work possible. We cannot wait to grow for you again this season.

Produce Shares

FULL SHARE
Includes 9 items of your choice each week. Great for veggie lovers, or people who are interested in preserving and putting up food for the long New England winter!

SMALL SHARE
Includes 6 items of your choice each week. Great for folks eating a smaller amount of vegetables or those who want to supplement from the farmers market or grocery store.

Meat Share

We’re adding the meat share to our Summer season too!

Meat shares will be distributed once per month during the last week of the month. Each monthly meat share will feature 3-4 items totaling approximately 6 pounds of meat. Each share will include a variety of different cuts of chicken, beef, pork, and fish.

We source our meat directly from our farm partners at Sage Farm, Reed Farm, Everyday Farm, Flagg Farm, Red’s Best and more! Learn more about the farms we purchase from and their practices.

PRICE: $400 ($80/month with SNAP)*

*IMPORTANT NOTE! The meat share is not eligible for monthly AutoSNAP payments through the DTA. Manual SNAP payments must be made each month before or at pickups.

Share Cost

Sliding Scale Prices

Our goal at Just Roots is to make fresh, local, organically grown food accessible to everyone, while also valuing the true cost of building and maintaining a just and thriving local farm and food system. As we aim to provide as much value as possible,* we price the Full Share at $950 and the Small Share at $695 to account for the unpredictability of the seasons and to show gratitude to YOU, our glorious members, for making your community farm thrive.

Each share size has a sliding scale that allows anyone to pay a lower amount if these prices feel out of reach.

If you receive SNAP, WIC or SSI or your income is less than 130% of the federally-defined poverty level (see eligibility chart in the next section), you qualify for our most reduced price.

Understanding the value of your CSA, we ask you to choose a price and payment schedule
that works for your budget. Please pay what you can to sustain your community farm!

*Note that even the highest price point for each of our shares typically sees a 10-20% discount from market prices over the course of the season! The exact value will change annually based on many factors (ex: weather), but last year our full share members received $1,105 worth of produce, and our small share, $800! How much should I pay?

Need help figuring out what to pay for your share?  We’re here to help.

Because of the reality of wealth inequality, Just Roots has created a sliding scale for our CSA, where some of us can pay more to cover the true costs of growing, harvesting and distributing the food, others can justifiably pay less, and each of us pays what we can, given our own circumstances. We’ve created this “worksheet” below as a way to offer some guidance for reflecting on what price point you may choose for your CSA share. We don’t expect you to fill this out and share it with us, or to offer any proof of your level of wealth. This is simply a tool for reflection as you consider your price point for this year’s CSA share.

To use this worksheet, simply note all the bullets below that apply to you. Think of each of these as “privilege points” or reasons why you may have the ability to pay the true cost of the share while others may not. The more bullets you check, the more likely you are to have the ability to pay more for your CSA and allow Just Roots to cover the true costs of your CSA, allowing Just Roots to provide you with the food without seeking extra funds we provide to support shares for people who experience may inequities and don’t have the needed resources to access the fresh food we grow.

   “Privilege Points:”

  • I own the home I live in.
  • I have investments or a retirement account.
  • I inherited money over $10,000.
  • I have access to family money and resources in times of need.
  • I work part-time, by choice.
  • I travel recreationally.
  • I am able (physically, mentally, logistically) to hold a job that pays a livable wage.
  • I don’t have significant debt.
  • I don’t have significant medical expenses.
  • I don’t receive public assistance (SNAP, SSI, housing assistance).
  • I am not supporting children or dependents.
  • I don’t have immigration-related expenses.
  • My annual household income is over $56,300 (median for household of 2.3 people in Franklin County)

THANK YOU for contributing what you can to make our local food system thrive! (And for getting real with us about how small decisions like CSA prices, can help us build a more equitable world!)

Check out our CSA sliding scale tool to help figure out a payment option that fits you best!

Income Qualifying Share Cost

If you receive SNAP, WIC, or SSI, you automatically qualify for our lowest priced share. Don’t have SNAP, WIC, or SSI? Determine if you qualify for the lowest end of the sliding scale by locating your household size and the associated maximum monthly income level in the chart below. If your household brings in less than this each month, you qualify for a $400 ($80/month*) full share or a $270 ($54/month*) small share.

* Listed prices are BEFORE the HIP rebate. Subtract your HIP rebate ($40/$60/$80 per month) to know your cost. The HIP rebate is an immediate reimbursement to your SNAP card. See the chart below for your post-reimbursement monthly cost.

Payment Plans

To help create a more accessible CSA, we offer flexible payment plans unique to each person, share size, and situation.

We ask that folks who are not paying at the lowest income-qualifying tier and who are not paying in full, make a down payment of $110 to secure their share and ensure their commitment to the farm. The rest of the CSA payment can be made in three automatic installments, on the first of the month in June, July, and August.

See the chart below to calculate your installment rate based on the share you choose.

Payment Installments

A down payment covering the first $110 of your share is due at the time of registration. To figure out your monthly installment rate, find your chosen CSA share size and your total cost. The corresponding price is your installment rate! This is what you will pay for your June, July and August installments.

Perks

A CSA Farm Share provides a weekly, seasonal array of fresh veggies for you to choose from, plus access to the farm’s Pick-Your-Own Garden anytime Tuesday-Saturday during daylight! Each pick-up includes recipes, cooking demos and friendly faces from the farm excited to share more with you about the farm and the food coming out of its fields.

SNAP + HIP

Using your benefits

Choose automatic SNAP & HIP payments: We require Auto-SNAP to pay for your farm share with your SNAP benefits. Automatic payments for your farm share go directly to Just Roots on the day you receive your SNAP dollars each month––convenient for you and great for the farm! This payment option reduces payment management time for you, automatically qualifies you for the HIP rebate, and minimizes administrative work for Just Roots.

NEW! The DTA has recently launched an online CSA registration site that replaces the old paper AutoSNAP form!

To enroll in automatic SNAP/HIP CSA payments:

  1. First complete and submit your Just Roots CSA registration form above to secure your spot!
  2. Visit the Just Roots page on the DTA Finder CSA website here
  3. Follow the prompts to enter your name, DOB, EBT card number, and contact information
  4. Select your share size
  5. Select from pickup or delivery

About the Growing Season

From June 17th through October 31st, our shareholders come to one pickup weekly to take home their shares. Our farmers harvest 10-20 different crops each week, depending on what is ready in our fields, and present them to our shareholders each week. Our members then choose which items they like, customizing the share each week to their own tastes. Some crops may be limited, and others abundant, depending on the week and weather.

Most of the crops are harvested, washed and packed weekly by our farm team, but in addition to these crops, we also have a small pick your own field for members to supplement their shares with. Our pick-your-own fields provide you the opportunity to get out in the fields and harvest flowers, beans, cherry tomatoes, husk cherries, peas and other fun things. We do our best to keep the pick-your-own fields weeded and labeled and provide directions on how to harvest, what to harvest and when to harvest!

In addition to our weekly harvests, we also produce a weekly email newsletter with updates, stories from the fields, information on events or farm happenings and recipes. Besides in-person interactions at CSA distributions, the emailed newsletter is the primary way that our farmers communicate with shareholders and keep them informed about our systems, techniques, and challenges. We ask all shareholders to read the newsletters each week and feel free to chat with our farm staff at distributions.

Joining a CSA means making a choice to eat seasonally. What we harvest changes over the course of the season, depending on what grows in spring, summer or fall. Members should expect the variety of your produce to shift from month to month. We do our very best to provide you, each week, with a choice of salad greens, cooking greens, roots, alliums (onions/scallions/garlic), and fruits (cucumbers/squash/tomatoes/peppers) as these crops are ready to harvest. You’ll see the changes of the seasons on your kitchen table. Click here for CISA’s Western Mass harvest calendar, a list of expected vegetable diversity.

About our Growing Practices

Just Roots has a commitment to sustainable, organic farming. Since our founding, we have worked to build healthy soils on the land that we are privileged to steward. In that time, we have grown our vegetable crops following organic standards and practices. Although we are not a certified organic farm, we use only materials approved by the Organic Materials Review Institute for pest control and fertility management. We focus on building healthy soils that will, in turn, provide us with strong, healthy, delicious food.

We encourage you to ask our team about our farming practices, and we regularly communicate those practices through our CSA newsletter.
