Since 2009, members of Just Roots have been building relationships with Greenfield schools in an effort to create food and farming programs for students. If you are interested in bringing your school group to the farm, or working with us to develop curriculum plans, or other farm and food based educational activities, please contact email@example.com
For the past four years, Just Roots has been working with The Discovery School at Four Corners Elementary. Much work has been done on the grounds of the school where raised vegetable beds, native wildflowers, and a butterfly garden have been established.
We are also working to establish year round gardening curriculum and indoor garden activities in the classroom. We hope to create a model that we can then bring to other public schools in Greenfield. We are currently partnering with Greening Greenfield to set up a propagation project with the students to germinate, care-take and plant flowers that will be planted around the town of Greenfield.
Just Roots is dedicated to connecting our farm with schools in Greenfield and creating supportive programs to outdoor education, access to healthy food, and farms-to-school models.
Just Roots staff, along with parent volunteers presented a variety of fruits and vegetables each week in a beautiful, colorful display, and encouraged the children to try new items and hopefully expand their palate. The different stations were important to the project’s success. We wanted to give the students a voice on how they reacted to these foods. Students who sampled a pepper and liked it, often wound up choosing to purchase and eat a whole pepper for their snack that day! We are excited to continue the Snack Market, with the hope to expand it to other elementary schools in Greenfield.
