“There’s something special and immensely important going on at the Greenfield Community Farm. Between the nature of the work, the beauty of the area, and the potential to learn real world skills, I was hooked. Though it wasn’t part of our initial agreement, I soon started arriving each day at 6 am instead of 8!
Sustainable agriculture and food security are some of the most important issues of our time. My internship with Just Roots has given me valuable insight into the nuts and bolts of farm management, sustainable crop production, and all the behind the scenes work that goes into putting food on the table. This experience gave me a new appreciation for what you find on the grocery store shelves!
The people at Just Roots are really fun to work with and make even the most arduous weeding/bean picking jobs entertaining. Take advantage of their experience and ask lots of questions! Also, be prepared to spearhead tasks on your own or with other interns. Farm work is demanding and requires patience, communication skills and a positive attitude (but you’ll have great role models I promise!). The potential to grow here is immense, especially as the farm is relatively new and always evolving…so come take part in it! It was the most rewarding summer gig I’ve had yet. ”

“Not just a farm, Just Roots is a multifaceted educational and community space. Here you can simultaneously enjoy the expansive flora of nature, both planted and wild, and the intimate setting of a small scale farm focused on growing juicy vegetables and well educated farmers. While farming is labor intensive Just Roots maintains a lighthearted and friendly atmosphere. It’s no wonder an organization with such good intentions draws in enthusiastic people. Greenfield is lucky to have this community space, from homesteading workshops to farm festivals bringing local business together to share what we know with one another. Just Roots is even reaching out to young students in grade schools, showing them how exciting fresh fruits and vegetables are! It’s been an honor to be a part of such a vibrant, thriving young organization and I look forward to seeing what else Just Roots gives birth to in the years to come!”
