Just Roots has purchased a tractor, our first major piece of equipment for use on the Greenfield Community Farm. We’ve been looking for a high-quality used tractor since last summer, and finally the search is over. We found a John Deere, Model 970 through a local equipment dealer.
For farm consultant David Paysnick the tractor is an essential piece of equipment, “It will do most of our soil work and move heavy materials around.” He reports that additional implements will soon be purchased starting with a flail mower and roto-tiller. “Hopefully,” he says, “soon we’ll have a small disc harrow, sprayer, bed shaper, fertilizer spreader, and seeder.”
Just Roots board chair Ted Watt writes: “We are very excited about the tractor purchase. It is going to enable us to take some critical steps toward making this vision of a community farm a reality on the ground for everyone to experience. Next season come and see what is growing in the fields!”
